How to choose beats to sing to

  • Key first. Every beat shows its key. Hum your hook over the preview: if the top notes strain or the low notes disappear, try a beat in another key rather than forcing it.
  • Tempo next. Slow R&B gives long notes room to ring, while faster melodic rap and pop suit shorter, rhythmic phrases. The BPM is shown on every beat.
  • Space. Listen for a melody that answers your voice instead of covering it, and for a gap in the arrangement where your verse can sit.

On each beat page, the Which structure? section shows where verses, hooks and a pre-hook can go, with timecodes. The Write lyrics notepad gives you one box per part, the part you are on lights up as the beat plays, and you can loop a single part until the melody sits. For the writing side, see how to write a hook.

The license to release your song

The Standard license (€49) gives you untagged MP3 and WAV for one song, with unlimited streams on every platform, up to 1,000 physical sales and one music video, credited "Prod. NKSounds". Add the stems (+€20) if your engineer wants to mix around harmonies and ad-libs, or extended rights for concerts, radio and TV (+€50). Three Standard licenses cost the price of two. The Exclusive (€499) includes the stems and takes the beat off the store. Mastering of your finished song is included with every beat you buy, and your files and license arrive by email from the producer. Rapping rather than singing? Frequently asked questions

What BPM is good for singing?

There is no single right tempo, but slow R&B often sits around 60 to 90 BPM, which leaves long notes room to ring. Melodic rap and pop usually run faster and suit shorter, rhythmic phrases. Every beat here shows its BPM, so start from the feel you want, then sing your hook over the preview before you buy.

How do I know if a beat is in my key?

Check the key shown on the beat page, then sing the highest and lowest notes of your hook over the preview. If you strain at the top or lose your voice at the bottom, that key does not suit the melody: try a beat in a slightly higher or lower key, or move your melody instead.

Can I release a sung song on these beats?

Yes, with a license. The Standard license (€49) covers one song with unlimited streams on every platform, up to 1,000 physical sales and one music video, credited "Prod. NKSounds". The Exclusive (€499) adds the stems, concerts, radio and TV and removes the beat from sale. Mastering of your song is included either way.

Do I need the stems for a sung track?

Not always, but they help. Stems are the separate parts of the beat, so your engineer can lower the chords under a high note or clear space for harmonies and ad-libs. They are an option on the Standard license (+€20) and come included with the Exclusive license (€499).
